Who We Are

The Central Texas Amateur Radio Club (CTARC) provides Amateur Radio support and service to a multi-county area in the Central Texas Region. Though we are based out of Bell County, our members consist of Amateur Radio Operators from Bell County and the surrounding counties. Our members participate in Emergency Communications, Skywarn Weather Nets, Storm Spotting and other Amateur Radio services ranging from assisting Bell County during emergency incidents as well as helping with communications for various events and last, but not least, just having fun with the hobby. We provide training and testing for those who wish to get started in the great hobby of Amateur Radio. The Technician class, the entry-level course for certification, has a better than 95% first time pass rate!

Severe Weather Support & Spotter Activation

We also assist the National Weather Service (NWS) with monitoring current conditions during potential severe weather events.  The CTARC Weather Net serves the Central Texas area in cooperation with the NWS and various local agencies using the wide area W5BEC Repeater [147.140 MHz, (+) PL 123.0 Hz] and the N5ZXJ Repeater [145.130 MHz, (-) PL 123.0 Hz] located in Eddy, Texas. Both repeaters cover approximately a 70-mile radius, encompassing all or part of twenty Central Texas counties.

The Fort Worth Office of the NWS has the capability to connect to either repeater via EchoLink.  This gives the NWS the ability to gather real time information from spotters on the ground and pass on to the public conditions that warrant issuing "Warnings", "Watches" or "Advisories".
